Non-Chemical Control of Annual Bluegrass (Poa annua) in Bermudagrass (Cynodon spp.) via Fraise Mowing: Efficacy and Barriers to Adoption

چکیده
Fraise mowing is a maintenance practice that may serve as non-chemical means of controlling the problematic weed annual bluegrass (Poa annua L.) in bermudagrass (Cynodon spp.) given reports efficacy on other turfgrass species. However, an understanding practitioner decision-making implementing fraise weed-control measure remains unknown. A field study was conducted Knoxville, TN and repeated space Jay, FL during summer 2019 to assess regrowth subsequent control, following at depths 1.5 3.0 cm compared non-treated check (0 cm). Bermudagrass recovered more quickly depth than swiftest Florida. either resulted 41–97% reduction populations. qualitative spring 2021, which engaged eight managers from Tennessee Florida via individual interviews order understand barriers challenges application. Turfgrass had positive views but described implementation for control including cost, labor, area closure, debris removal.

Faeriefungin, an antibiotic produced by the actinomycete Streptomyces griseus var. autotrophicus MSU-32058/ATCC 53668, was tested in field trials on golf course fairways to determine if it could control annual bluegrass (Poa annua L.) summer patch effectively. Test sites with a history of severe summer patch outbreaks caused by Magnaporthe poae Landschoot and Jackson were chosen for study. Faer...
متن کاملDevelopment of a greenhouse-based inoculation protocol for the fungus Colletotrichum cereale pathogenic to annual bluegrass (Poa annua)
The fungus Colletotrichum cereale incites anthracnose disease on Poa annua (annual bluegrass) turfgrass. Anthracnose disease is geographically widespread throughout the world and highly destructive to cool-season turfgrasses, with infections by C. cereale resulting in extensive turf loss. Comprehensive research aimed at controlling turfgrass anthracnose has been performed in the field, but know...

The fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), is a destructive pest of many species of both C3 and C4 (cooland warm-season) turfgrass. No-choice experiments were conducted to evaluate 13 turfgrass genotypes of various Poa spp. for susceptibility or resistance to the fall armyworm. All 13 genotypes, including 8 Texas bluegrass ( Poa arachnifera Torr.), 2 Kentuck...

Tradi t ional weed control in agric u l t u r e ha s b e e n a c c o m p l i s h e d primarily through the use of chemical herbicides and cultivation. Cultivation practices are of little use for weed control in turfgrass management. Turf managers, therefore, tend to rely heavily on chemicals for weed control. Chemical herbicides tend to exhibit rather broad spectrum characteristics. Two common ...
